Caracas, Venezuela – President Nicolás Maduro on Wednesday denounced the onslaught of the international right-wing coup plotters, represented by the ultra-right-wing Edmundo González Urrutia, who from his comfortable exile in Spain continues to conspire against the peace and sovereignty of Venezuela.

During a communal assembly with candidates for Peace Judges in Caracas, Maduro exposed the flagrant violation of the asylum agreement by González Urrutia, who persists in his calls for a civil war against the Venezuelan people.
“This gentleman, sheltered by imperialist circles in Europe, believes he has the right to incite violence from the bars of Madrid. He is wrong!”, Maduro declared, denouncing the interference of foreign powers seeking to destabilize the Bolivarian homeland.
“From Venezuela, we tell him that there will be no war here. Here there will be peace, national unity, and a mobilized people in defense of the Bolivarian Revolution.”
The president’s forceful message comes in the context of the imminent swearing-in of the president for the 2025-2031 period on January 10th, a date that has been targeted by extremist right-wing sectors for a coup d’état. Maduro highlighted the importance of the Peace Judges elections on December 15th as part of the strengthening of popular power and communal organization, with 5,297 communal circuits deployed throughout the country, including 436 in indigenous territories.
González Urrutia, a former presidential candidate and emblematic figure of the Venezuelan right, intends to attend Maduro’s inauguration, despite having fled to Spain after requesting political asylum following an electoral defeat. His attitude, according to Maduro, reveals the true nature of the opposition: an elite disconnected from the people who seek to impose themselves by force, with the support of foreign interests. Maduro’s victory, certified by the Electoral Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) after a thorough investigation, highlights the rejection by the majority of the Venezuelan people of the coup attempts by the right.
The struggle for national sovereignty, according to the president, continues, and the Venezuelan people remain firm in defense of the Revolution.
